The Recreation and Activities Department of the Galena Territory along with many of the Association Committees provide families with many events and activities through out the year. Kid’s Holiday parties, fishing contests and special events and the many recreational facilities offer families many fun things to do! The biggest challenge is to decide what to do first!

Holiday Events

Easter Fun Day

The Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Easter Bunny, will be planning some Egg-citing activities for the Easter Holiday! Easter craft projects, fun food and light beverages are provided. Our egg-citing egg hunt is a favorite of all Territory kids. Goodie bags filled with Easter surprises are provided to all boys and girls.

Kids Halloween Party

This Spooktacular event is a family favorite. Ghosts, goblins, princesses and pirates will make their appearance at the Owners’ Club. Games and activities fill our afternoon with lots of holiday fun. Our costume contest is a favorite of everyone. Prizes are awarded to the best dresses and most creative goblin. Ghoulish goodies and bubbling refreshments are provided. Goodie bags filled with Halloween surprises are provided to all. Don’t miss out on this frightfully fun afternoon.

Kids Christmas Party

Hey kids! All the way from the North Pole, Santa Clause will make his annual visit to the Galena Territory to see all the good girls and boys. Create your Annual Christmas ornament while munching on frosted Christmas cookies carefully decorated by you! Multiple crafts stations will provide lots of holiday fun for all! Kids, don’t forget your Christmas list for Santa. Goodie bags filled with holiday surprises are provided to all good little boys and girls.

Special Events

Kids Fishing Contest

The Kids Fishing Contest is sponsored by the Lake Management & Ecology Committee. This Annual event is a family favorite and is full of fun for our junior anglers. Whether it’s the first catch or the 100th catch kids love this event! Don’t forget to bring your pole, we will provide the bait. This will truly be a day to remember, bring the whole family and don’t forget to bring your camera.

Farm Fun Day

This event is co-sponsored by the Illinois Farm Bureau and the Illinois Young Farmers Association. This fun event is for kids to learn all about life on the farm. A traveling petting zoo with kid size animal to touch and a dairy cow to milk, and learning all about crops that we eat and use in our every day life bring out the farm kid in everyone. Learn how to make homemade butter and ice-cream! Don’t miss out on this day of Farm Fun!

EMS Day

Emergency Services Day is an action packed afternoon getting up and personal with our local Emergency Services Departments. Come and meet our Territory Firefighters, tour the Territory Fire house, check out all the fire trucks and equipment. An Educational Smoke House will be on hand for families to participate in. This is a great teaching tool for all families. The Jo Daviess County Sheriff Department will also be on hand with their search and rescue dog and will do child finger printing information sheet for you to take home. The Galena Ambulance Service will give children and adults a first hand look inside the state of the art local ambulance. If all goes well and there are no emergencies a Medical Flight Helicopter will also be on hand to give families a close look at this emergency air transportation. This is a great educational and fun day for the whole family.

Astronomy and Public Observation Programs

Astronomy and Public Observation programs are offered in the summer and early fall months. With guides to the beautiful night skies families are encouraged to come and learn all about the stars, constellations and the stories that the beautiful night skies bring. If you have a telescope please feel free to bring it along. Telescope set up will start right a dusk and the program will start at dark. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. There will be no Observation if the weather is inclement. Star Lab, an indoor planetarium will be available on certain dates. There will be a presentation by Professional Astronomers and will be on hand to help answer your questions, please check the Galena Territory Calendar for these important date.

Recreational Facilities

Game Room

The Owners’ Club Game Room is a great place for families to gather and enjoy the Owners’ Club Complex. The room contains pool tables, ping-pong tables, foosball, puzzles & board games.

Video Arcade Room

The Owners’ Club Video Arcade Room contains a variety of arcade games that kids of all ages can enjoy! For your convenience, a change machine is available.

Gymnasium

A basketball court is available for all to enjoy a great pick-up game or to just practice your skills. Indoor tennis, volleyball and shuffleboard can also be setup, but advanced notice is required.
