The LP gas purchasing cooperative was started several years ago to join the members who have propane-burning furnaces together as one purchasing unit to increase their buying power. The result has been significant annual savings for each member of the co-op.

How It Works

Several years ago the Galena Territory Association started a propane gas-purchasing cooperative amongst those members who have propane-burning furnaces and indicated they wanted to participate in the cooperative. Today, about 2/3rds of those eligible homeowners participate in the cooperative.

Several years ago we encountered a problem in the program when individuals submitted their form to join the co-op but then decided not to participate when it came time to sign the contract with the supplier. We must reiterate that if you submit your form to join the co-op you will be obligated to purchase your gas through the co-op’s supplier; otherwise the co-op purchasing program will be meaningless.

The Board of Directors approved a three-year contract with Ferrellgas to be the supplier for the co-op. The contract will run from July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2009. Entering this multi-year contract will allow the GTA to coordinate the purchase of the propane to avoid being forced to purchase the product during an upswing in commodity pricing. This allows us the flexibility to purchase when the pricing best suits our members. Please note that each individual coop member will remain on one-year contracts with Ferrellgas. Members will be contacted annually to indicate their decision as to whether or not to participate in the coop for the coming year.

Each year there is a deadline for participation in this coop program. Typically that deadline is March 31st, please contact the office for the current deadline. If you do not wish to participate just do not return the form. We hope that you will participate and enjoy the savings earned as a member of the cooperative.
