The waters of Lake Galena are subject to State of Illinois and US Coast Guard boating regulations, as well as rules established by the Board of Directors.
Creel Limits
A creel is the wicker basket that was used by fisherfolk at the turn of the century. A creel limit is the amount of fish, by weight or length, which can be taken from the lake.

Lake rules
These are the rules specific to Lake Galena; see links below for State of Illinois and Coast Guard rules.
All watercraft must be properly registered with the State of Illinois and The Galena Territory Association. Both state and Territory registration numbers must be displayed on boats.
Maximum motor size is 10 horsepower.
Pontoon boats can be no larger than 8’ beam and 17’ long.
Only property owners are allowed to trailer in or have a boat docked on Lake Galena.
All anglers must have a current Illinois fishing license which is available at the marina or on the IDNR website.
Only rod and line fishing is permitted, with fishing allowed from boats and shore fishing area. No fishing is allowed from the docks.
Live bait, if used, must be purchased from a state licensed dealer.
