The Recreation Department offers exciting programs for kids of all ages.

Youth Programs
Creating fun-filled youth programs is something we look forward to every year in the Recreation Department. We like to incorporate adventure along with a dash of education! We partner with local organizations such as the Illinois Farm Bureau and others to make our programs exciting and fun, with experts teaching our children. These organizations are great to work with and offer many different teaching tools.
Summer is our ready, set, go season! Memorial Day through Labor Day we run non-stop adventures that start on Tuesday and go through Friday. Themed programs are great fun for the kids and it gives them something to look forward to while they are visiting The Territory. Our theme programs supply the kids with a whole week’s worth of hands-on educational programming, cooking projects, reading, and arts and crafts. We choose one topic per week and wrap it up with a huge celebration! Please remember that all recreation activities require pre-registration and are subject to change without notice.
Sunday and Monday our Recreation Department is closed but we offer independent programs such as movies and coloring projects located in the Kids’ Corner. The game room and gym are available seven days a week year-round. When the summer season comes to a close and the kids have gone back to school, the Recreation Department continues to offer programs during the fall and winter season. Conducted on the weekends and holidays, these programs revolve around the different holidays and include arts and crafts, games and movies.

Reminder: All Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult at least 18 years of age or older at all GTA functions and at all facilities.

Adult Programs
We just don’t let the kids have all the fun in The Galena Territory; we offer a wide variety of activities for adults, too. Weekly activities include Ladies’ and Men’s Coffees, sewing groups, bowling groups, golfing groups, gardening clubs, walking groups, tennis doubles, bridge groups, Monday Night Football, as well as monthly gatherings such as Guy’s Night Out, Ladies’ Game Night and the Territory Quilters group. One of the great things about The Territory is that you really don’t have to live in The Territory full-time to enjoy these different group activities. If you are in Galena for a day, week or month, you are welcome to join in.
The Owners' Club Complex is a great place for the entire family. The game room is stocked with pool tables, ping pong tables and fosse ball, and a great video arcade room! We offer four tennis and pickleball courts; two at the Owners’ Club and two at the Marina for our tennis buffs.
The Marina Park area is also packed with family fun with two horseshoe pits, sand volleyball and a great playground in the sand for the kids. Check these locations out! I guarantee there is something for everyone!

Social Clubs and Events: Something for Everyone

The Galena Territory community offers everyone many different opportunities to participate in groups and clubs. Weekly and monthly gatherings of all kinds come together to share ideas, friendship and great fun!  The hardest part is deciding what to do first!
Here is a sample of the different types of activities to choose from… if you are looking for outdoor fun we have men’s and women’s golf groups, tennis doubles, and walking groups. We have quilters, crafters and gardeners that spread beauty all over The Territory. Fishing on Lake Galena is an option all-year round, while traveling dinner and gourmet groups love to dine… anytime. Spend a morning tap dancing or line dancing, and then spend the afternoon playing bridge. If you’re looking for good conversation and information-sharing, stop by the Ladies’ or Men’s Coffees at the Owners’ Club Lounge every week.
The Social Committee helps bring members of the Association together as a community.  They host dinners and parties so that members can get to know one another in a relaxed and informal setting. This committee is always looking for ideas, volunteers, and members willing to act as the hosts and hostesses for their events. This committee meets twice each year, generally in the spring and fall.
