Town hall set for July 27

Property owners are encouraged to attend a town hall meeting at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 27 in Social Hall B in the GTA Owners’ Club. Discussion will center on Sand Prairie’s plan to bring fiber internet to The Territory and the conceptual Marina Amenity Plan.

Pirate Party moved to Owners' Club

Due to excessive heat forecast for the weekend, the Pirate Party set for 1 p.m. Saturday will now take place at the GTA Owners’ Club instead of the Marina Park Complex. Event is full.

Walk the trail Saturday

The next Hit the Trail Walk starts 9 a.m. Saturday at Cayuga Trail, just off Clark Lane. Join Natural Resources Coordinator Emily Lubcke in identifying plants and trees. Walkers should wear proper shoes and clothing. Call Sue Young at 815-777-2000 for more information.

Today: Impacts of Climate Change

Chicago Field Museum ecologist Abigail Derby Lewis will discuss the Impacts of Climate Change on the region at 7 p.m., optional potluck at 5:30 p.m., today at Galena Cellars Vineyard, 4746 N. Ford Road, Galena, just north of The Territory. If attending the potluck, please bring a dish to pass and your own table service. The event, sponsored by the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation, is free and RSVPs are not required.

Nicor approved to bring natural gas to The Territory

The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) has granted Northern Illinois Gas Company (Nicor)'s request to extend natural gas lines into The Galena Territory. Nicor plans to use existing public right of ways in The Territory. Construction of the main extension will likely take six months to one year, the company said. Nicor will soon schedule several on-site town hall meetings to provide property owners with information regarding the construction plan, conversion information, how to sign up and to answer questions.

Call for Candidates for the Galena Territory Foundation Board of Directors

Galena Territory Foundation, a 501(c)[3] tax exempt public charity, is seeking candidates to run for election to its Board of Directors. Interested persons are to submit their intent to run for a Board of Director position in writing along with a short background statement not to exceed 150 words. This information is to be submitted to Lisa Binder, Galena Territory Foundation, 2000 Territory Drive, Galena IL 61036 or lisabinder415@gmail.com no later than the close of business (4:30pm) on October 20, 2019. One director will be elected for a 3-year term, at the Galena Territory Foundation Annual Meeting on February 22, 2020.

GTA to Sell Lot by Sealed Bid

The Galena Territory Association, Inc. was forced to foreclose on a property for failure to pay their annual assessment. The GTA took ownership of this lot and it must now be resold. The lot address is 2 North Acorn Court and the minimum bid has been set at $1,500. The GTA reserves the right to reject any and all bids. Any interested parties must submit their sealed bid at the Owners’ Club by 3 p.m. (CDST) on Friday, July 26, 2019.  The sealed bids will be opened at the Owners’ Club in a public forum on that date and time. Click here to find information regarding this property, sale terms and terms for submitting a bid.


Weather permitting, construction work on US 20 / IL 84 from Mt. Hope Road to Tippett Road, southeast of Galena, will begin on Monday, July 8. Civil Constructors, Inc. will be completing the $2,803,709 milling and resurfacing project. Daily lane closures with flaggers will be utilized. Drivers should be prepared to stop for flaggers who will be directing traffic through the work operations. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. No in-roadway work will take place after 3 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday. Work is expected to be completed by Sept. 27. Replace Old Glory at VFW

It’s this time of year when Americans celebrate patriotic holidays and proudly fly the nation’s colors. Perhaps your flag has become worn. American Legion Post 193 in Galena can help. In cooperation with the Galena VFW, 100 S. Main St., the Legion has many sizes of “Made in the USA” American flags for sale. Worn flags can be left at the VFW when you pick up your replacement or they can be deposited in the marked container behind the Galena City Hall, 101 Green St. Call 815-777-1003 for more information.

Nicor replacing pipeline

Nicor Gas will be replacing the pipeline that crosses the extreme northern part of The Galena Territory starting in January 2019 in a system improvement and modernization project totally unrelated to the utility service case proceeding through the Illinois Commerce Commission. All property owners are welcome to renew or apply for a Property Owner ID card through Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa for the 2019 year. Applications are available through the Administrative Offices at Eagle Ridge and are also available at the front desk of the Inn, through e-mail or regular mail. Fiber Optic Update: One polygon in pre-construction phase

One polygon, GT10, has moved to the pre-construction phase. GT5 and GT6 are in sign-up phase. Every polygon has seen a monthly increase in the number of people expressing interest. All residents in The Territory are encouraged to CLICK HERE to express interest in fiber optic internet.
