Pickleball Play Day Sunday

Cheer on your favorite "pickleballer" during Pickleball Day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Marina Pickleball courts. Registration is full, but this is a great chance to watch one of the fastest growing sports in the country. This is the second year of the event.

Fall Bass Classic postponed until Sept. 28

The Lake Galena Marina weathered recent high winds and 4 to 5 inches of rain thanks to staff and strong flood mitigation efforts. Excessive debris, however, has made it impractical to hold The GTA Fall Bass Classic tomorrow. The event is rescheduled for Sept. 28 with early registration through Sept. 25. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. with the tournament starting at 7:30 a.m. Cost is $35 per person in advance and $40 day of event. Early registration includes lunch and chance at door prizes. Register at 815-777-2012. Questions? Call Lake Galena and Marina Coordinator Steve Birkbeck at 815-777-2000 or email him

Tentative plan in place at Shenandoah

The GTA Board of Directors and staff have a short-term plan in place to meet the needs of current boarders after the group selected to manage the Shenandoah Riding Center chose not move forward with its contract. The GTA is now turning its attention to trail rides and special events. Please continue to watch for updates in weekly e-newsletters, at and GTA Facebook Group.

Nicor update for week of Sept. 16:

There are four NPL Construction crews in The Territory installing pipeline for natural gas for Nicor. They are:
  • Crew 1 - Blackhawk Trace
  • Crew 2 - Blackhawk Trace
  • Crew 3 - Cameron Road
  • Crew 4 - Cemetery Ridge and Taylor Way
NPL has added extra flaggers for safety due to the hilly area. Please use caution when traveling through these areas.

Apply for Board candidacy starting Sept. 1

The Nominating Committee is now accepting applications for candidates interested in running for a seat on The Galena Territory Association Board of Directors. Applications will be accepted from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31 by 3 p.m. The GTA Board consists of nine members serving three-year terms. Since terms are staggered each year, there are three open seats.

Operating a homeowner association carries with it many of the very same duties and responsibilities as overseeing any other business. Serving as a board member is a valuable and rewarding experience that should be undertaken by those who see it as an opportunity to serve their fellow neighbors while protecting and enhancing the assets of the community. It’s a serious responsibility, but also a task worth doing well in order to safeguard the investments of all. Read/Download Board of Director Application

Marina Concept Plan: Board seeks owner input

In order to remain relevant for the future, The Galena Territory Association, its Board, Committees, Commissions and Advisory Boards are committed to reviewing and updating all of our amenities through a multi-year approach of research, input from property owners and careful planning.
The conceptual Marina Amenity Master Plan is a culmination of more than five years of effort by a planning team including leadership from the Board of Directors of the Galena Territory Association, Long Range Planning Commission, Lake Management & Ecology Advisory Group, Greenspace Advisory Group, and senior staff.  The planning team’s focus is to present a plan that encapsulates the vision of the Marina to reflect the nature-centric character of The Territory, to create community pride, to serve a multi-generational demographic year-round and engage current property owners, guests and potential property owners. Cut the copper cord

Fiber optic has a huge data flow capacity--like a large river. Copper cable capacity is like a garden hose by comparison. Plus, fiber internet will come from Sand Prairie, a local, nonprofit, customer-owned Cooperative Jo-Carroll Energy, promising simple and consistent pricing. Take a look at the numbers or check to see where if your neighborhood is ready to get fiber

Fiber Optic Update: One polygon in pre-construction phase
