First Fridays

Give second language learning a try!

Wednesdays (beginning Feb. 26)
French 1-2 p.m. and Spanish 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the Owners’ Club with an additional option of Monday 1/2 hour online meetings 
Give second language learning a try with strategies that provide comprehensible input in the target language! The first two face-to-face classes are FREE. Stories engage learners via humorous stories and legends. Perfect for novice learners or students who need to “brush up” on their Spanish or French. $25 per class OR Owner’s club classes plus extra language time  via video conference for $35 per week. Braize and Graze Cooking Class at Fried Green Tomatoes

Thursday, Feb 28
Class: 2-4 p.m. Dinner: 4:30 p.m. Learn to prepare vegetables, starches and meats for braising with the chef at Fried Green Tomatoes downtown Galena. And a guest chef will show everyone how to make pasta for short rib ravioli. Then enjoy the fruits of the culinary labor. Appetizer: Stuffed risotto balls in a braised tomato ragu. Salad: Frissee, radicchio and fennel salad with mustard vinaigrette. Entrée: Braised beef short rib or pork osso bucco with whipped parsnips and glazed carrots. $43 per guest, Includes one glass of wine and server gratuity. Great Decisions

Mondays, 7 p.m. in March and April
Owners’ Club Social Hall. Participants have an opportunity to discover and discuss how some of the world’s greatest challenges can be met. Each session begins with viewing a discussion among experts. Then the group shares respectful discussion. Topics include: Refugees and Global Migration; The Middle East: Regional Disorder; Nuclear Negotiations: Back to the Future?; The Rise of Populism in Europe; Decoding U.S. – China Trade; Cyber Conflict and Geopolitics; The United States and Mexico: Partnership Tested; State of the State Department and Diplomacy. All GTA property owners welcome. Easter Fun Day

GTA Activities and Events

Belden School was built in 1859.The stone structure is located off Heatherdowns Lane in The Galena Territory. The Belden School Restoration Committee was formed in 2004 by a group of Territory residents. Active efforts, using funds contributed from many interested and generous people, resulted in the restoration of the building. The committee provides FREE tours and special events at the school on the first and third Saturdays June through October from 10 a.m. until noon.
