Territory Farmers Market

EVERY SUNDAY through October 7, 8 a.m. until Noon Fresh produce, free-range and antibiotic-free meat, flowers and plants, jams, jellies, baked goods, arts and crafts, breakfast vendors and more... Belden School was built in 1859.The stone structure is located off Heatherdowns Lane in The Galena Territory. The Belden School Restoration Committee was formed in 2004 by a group of Territory residents. Active efforts, using funds contributed from many interested and generous people, resulted in the restoration of the building. The committee provides FREE tours and special events at the school on the first and third Saturdays June through October from 10 a.m. until noon.

Just Show Up Fridays

Territory Garage Sales

June 9, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Summertime and the annual Territory Garage Sales go hand-in-hand. For more than two decades the garage sale has been an event that property owners participate in as both sellers and buyers. The Belden School Preservation Committee is once again sponsoring the event. A map of the 54 homes participating in the event will be available at the Owners’ Club lobby from 8 a.m. until noon on the day of the sale. Star Gazing (Public Observation)

How to Use a Telescope Workshop: June 9, 7:30 p.m. A beginner's workshop designed for the amateur or beginning astronomer to become familiarized with a telescope, and learn the basic techniques that astronomers use to locate objects in the sky. This class is taught by Walter Trentadue, an adjunct professor at Rock Valley College, and is condensed from the classes he taught for many years both there and at Harper College to his astronomy students. This class requires advance pre-registration and a nominal, non-refundable $10 fee. Deep Sky Objects Workshop: July 7, 8:30 p.m.
This is a more advanced workshop, designed to assist amateur astronomers and observers- who already know the basics of using a telescope- learn some techniques that will allow them to find more interesting objects in the sky easily. Since this workshop is "hands on" it will require you to have your telescope set up before dark, at the Owners Club parking lot before the public observing program begins, and will run concurrently with the public observing program. This workshop is FREE; no pre-registration necessary.

Meteorite Identification presentation: August 11, 7 p.m.
 This FREE presentation will show you how to identify meteorites and categorize them into their three main classification types. No pre-registration necessary. Genuine meteorite specimens will be available for purchase.

Hit the Trail (Walk)

June 16, August 4, September 22, October 20 at 9 a.m.

Woodland Fairy Garden Walk

Saturday, June 16
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Belden School, 52 Heatherdowns Lane in The Galena Territory
Walk the woodland trail at Belden School and discover fairy garden houses made of natural woodland materials. Belden School Preservation Committee will be hosting an open house at Belden School during the walk. Volunteer docents will greet visitors with stories of the one-room schoolhouse. Individual artists may elect to sell their fairy houses. Suggested donation $5 per person (children free) All proceeds benefit the care and maintenance of Belden School.

Property Owner Golf Tournament

June 16
The Galena Territory Association 4-person Scramble on The General. 18 holes of premier golf, all greens fees, cart, prizes and dinner. Dinner and drinks to follow at  the GTA Owners’ Club Social Hall Social Hour: 5:30 p.m. Ribeye Dinner by Poor Man’s Catering: 6 p.m. Eagle Ridge golf members $70/person. Annual Kids' Fishing Contest

June 30 at Lake Galena Marina
Registration at 10 a.m. Contest 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Open to all kids up to and including age 12. Free T-shirt and tackle box to the first 200 kids! Hot dog lunch served after the contest.
